Record-Setting Passer Named Russell Athletic Offensive Player of Week 16
SALT LAKE CITY – Three days after setting a single-season Arena Football League record for touchdown passes, Utah Blaze QB Tommy Grady has been recognized as the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of Week 16. The award marks the fifth weekly accolade Grady has earned this season.
Last Saturday, Grady (6-7, 240, Utah) completed 25-of-28 pass attempts for 306 yards and eight touchdowns while leading the Blaze to a 61-38 victory over the Georgia Force. With his final attempt of the night, Grady tossed a 14-yard score to WR Jeremy Kelley and brought his season total up to 118 touchdown passes to set a new all-time AFL record.
Against the Force, Grady also set a new franchise record for completion percentage by hitting on 89.3 percent of his attempts – a mark that ranks second in AFL history. He posted a passer efficiency rating of 151.79 and threw for over 300 yards in his seventh consecutive contest, both of which are franchise bests.
Grady also became the first quarterback in the Arena Football League to eclipse the 5,000-yard mark in 2012, achieving the feat faster than any player in League history. In 15 games this season, he’s thrown for 5,104 yards and 118 touchdowns with 18 interceptions of 438-of-634 passing (69.1%).
Following a bye week, Grady and the Utah Blaze will hit the road to take on the division-rival Arizona Rattlers. Utah currently holds the third seed in the National Conference playoff race after securing the first winning season in franchise history with a 10-5 record.
