BLAZE TO HOST TRYOUT IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

Players to Get Look From Utah, Philadelphia at Carson High School in Carson, CA

SALT LAKE CITY – The Utah Blaze and Philadelphia Soul will hold an open tryout on Saturday, January 14 at Carson High School in Carson, CA. The school is located at 22328 Main Street, Carson, CA 90745-4599. Blaze Head Coach/President Ron James will be on hand to evaluate players in attendance. He will be joined by Soul Head Coach Doug Plank, Assistant Head Coach Clint Dolezel and Assistant Coach Leroy Thompson.

“The Southern California area has a tremendous amount of football talent,” said Coach James. I’m excited about the opportunity to evaluate players in conjunction with some of the best coaches I know in the Arena Football League. Workouts such as these afford athletes the rare opportunity to showcase their talents for more than one coaching staff at a time. As we prepare our roster for the 2012 season, this gives the Blaze another avenue from which to sign high quality football players."

All participants can pre-register before Wednesday, January 11 at www.philadelphiasoul.com.  The cost of the tryout is $60 for those who pre-register and $80 at the door by cash, money order or certified funds only.  All fees are non-refundable.  On the day of the tryout, registration will begin at 8 a.m., with stretching starting promptly at 9 a.m. 

Utah signed wide receiver Augustine Agyei after seeing him in action at their last tryout on Nov. 19. The Soul found two players – Alfonso Hoggard and Jesse Cooper – from this season’s open tryout in Philadelphia and found three – Nyere Aumaitre, Jerome Hayes and Keith Stokes – that became starters from last year’s open tryouts.

Players will be tested on their 40-yard time, broad jump and short shuttle with other position-specific drills and one-on-ones to follow.  Please bring appropriate workout gear and shoes/cleats.  Testing will take place on field turf – no metal cleats are permitted.  A trainer will be on hand for emergencies only – not for player taping.
