Torch was born unlike any other tiger. For starters, he had odd, flame-shaped stripes, and was the only tiger that lived in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains. He grew up lonely, and often roamed the area looking for anyone like him.
Like most tigers, Torch wanted to be tough and ferocious. He tried to scare hikers and campers as they made their way through the mountains, but was unsuccessful. No matter how hard he tried, Torch always found that he was better at making people laugh.
Throughout the years, Torch often watched as groups of campers played a fascinating game with a strangely shaped object. He enjoyed learning how to play, and eventually found out it was a sport known as football. One evening, Torch decided once and for all he wanted to be a part of the game. He gave up trying to be terrifying, and wandered into the city on a mission to find a football team to join.
Torch made his way down to Salt Lake City and was thrilled to find a team whose colors happened to match his fur – the Utah Blaze. He secretly followed the team into an arena, where he watched the humans play football day after day. He was so excited about the game that he began cheering for the players dressed in orange and black.
Torch wanted to be a part of this team more than anything in the world, and began to copy everything the players did. He trained, ate lots of food, and then trained some more. The day finally came when Torch would get his chance to become a member of the Blaze.
Torch snuck into the arena to watch the team practice like any other day. Little did he know, the coaches had noticed him hiding in the bleachers, and saw that he was growing into a bigger, stronger tiger. They decided to see what he could do, and called him down to the field.
When Torch finally stepped on the field, he did as much as he could to impress the team. He performed flips and tricks, and entertained everyone. The players all stared in amazement as the tiger put on a show.
The Blaze loved Torch for the tricks he could do, and decided he had to be a part of the team. He could entertain the crowd, cheer for the players, perform with the dancers, and sometimes even practice with the team. Utah decided to name Torch their official mascot.
Torch knew he had finally found his home… He could be a part of the Utah Blaze forever and would never be lonely again.
